How Does a Beginner Golfer Use a Putter?

Updated: Feb 7, 2023

1. First, line up the putter with the target. Place the toe of the putter directly behind the ball and point the putter's shaft toward the target.

2. Make sure your feet are shoulder-width apart and your hips are slightly bent when you address the ball.

3. Move the putter back and through the ball with a smooth, pendulum-like motion. Make sure to keep your arms and shoulders relaxed throughout the stroke.

4. Follow through with the motion, allowing your putter to continue along the same path and finish at the target.

5. Keep your head still and eyes on the ball until your putter has completed the stroke.
